Research Collaboration with Airbus Defence and Space
My PhD is funded for three years as part of a research collaboration between the University of Konstanz and Airbus Defence and Space in Friedrichshafen.
This collaboration brings together academic research and industrial practice, opening up new perspectives on the future of work, new ways of working, and emerging working environments.
The Spatial Thinkers column for the IBA
Together with Ann Sophie Lauterbach, I write the column “The Spatial Thinkers” for the industry association office and working world (Industrieverband Büro und Arbeitswelt e.V., IBA), where we translate current research on work environments into accessible insights for practitioners and the broader public.
ORGATEC Wherever Whenever – Work Culture Festival
Bridging Science & Industry at ORGATEC Cologne 2024
In our keynote, Ann Sophie Lauterbach and I explored how scientific insights and practical experience can come together to create office environments that meet the demands of today’s and tomorrow’s work. From hybrid work models and office densification to return-to-office mandates – these trends challenge both practice and research, but one thing is fact: the future of work also requires rethinking the future workspace.

Social Spatial Thinking: From the Office to Interaction
Offices are built – workspaces are created. Despite modern architecture, new workplace concepts, and flexible layouts, many offices fall short of their potential. Why? Because spaces are more than just design and square meters. They are only imbued with meaning by people: through interactions, routines, collaboration, and leadership.
In the context of hybrid work, the dynamics between employees and leaders are fundamentally changing. Different expectations regarding presence, collaboration, and belonging are creating new challenges within the office’s social fabric. How can leaders design workspaces so that employees enjoy coming to the office – without “return-to-office” mandates?
In their presentation, Amelie Marie Fischer and Dr. Ann-Sophie Lauterbach will explore how space is socially constructed, what tensions shape hybrid work environments, and what specific strategies leaders can use to foster a sense of belonging, collaboration, and satisfaction in the office.
Webinar at the Deutsche Netzwerk Büro e.V.
From Trends to Evidence: Office Design in the Hybrid Work Environment
In hybrid work models, time and space are becoming increasingly decoupled: Employees work flexibly, regardless of location, and on their own terms. The office is no longer a given—it has become a conscious choice. As a result, its function is fundamentally changing. But what do we actually know about the impact of office design? Which spatial elements promote collaboration, concentration, and a sense of belonging? And where are organizations following trends rather than evidence? In this webinar, the speaker will provide insights into current research on designing sustainable work environments. She will demonstrate the effects of spatial concepts and employee participation, and explain how organizations can effectively implement office changes. She will also address typical pitfalls that repeatedly arise during transformation processes.
